Dear Chemeketa Colleagues,

As you know, over the past months we have not filled many vacant positions at the college and have undergone a number of retrenchments. It has been an extraordinarily difficult and anxious year for all of us. As we begin to look forward with an eye to the future, I would like to make you aware of some future changes.

In order to shape (and manage) our work moving forward, we cannot expect to do everything we did in the same way we used to do it. We need to be open to developing new approaches in order to make the most of what we have, adjust our own expectations internally to match our staffing levels, and continue to do everything we can to create success for our students. Now more than ever, we need to rely on our excellent college, full of caring and committed people.

This reality is necessitating some restructuring at the college. We have been working with managers in the areas affected to create the following changes, which will be going into effect this term.

  • Deans Danielle Hoffman and Paul Davis will lead our operations at our locations west of the Willamette river (YVC, Eola, and the Polk Center). Danielle will lead General Education and Developmental Education scheduling, as well as student services. Paul will lead CTE and workforce development.
  • The Building Inspection Technology program will move under the purview of the Brooks Center.
  • The Woodburn Center will move under Executive Dean Marshall Roache in order to create capacity for Executive Dean Holly Nelson to be more active in external, workforce-related efforts.
  • HHP and Human Services will be moved from their respective areas and be led by Shaunah Steele. Shaunah will report directly to Executive Dean Marshall Roache.
  • Athletics will move under Executive Dean Manuel Guerra where additional support can be provided to the student athletes.
  • Social Sciences and Languages, including ASL, will join the Liberal Arts Department with Dean Keith Russell.
  • Psychology will join the Sciences with Dean Marie Gabbard.

Student Affairs is currently going through some major changes and is thoughtfully planning a restructure that aligns with the critical work that lies ahead. Executive Deans Manuel Guerra and Ryan West are working toward solidifying a concrete plan for transition by Spring In-Service.

Thank you for your support during these times of change.

Regards, Jessica
